Angelina Kolevris

I am a passionate third-year undergraduate and intern student at the University of Technology Sydney completing my Bachelor's degree in Marine Biology and Climate Change. Not only do I love the ocean, but I also want to learn more about all the little pieces of the puzzle that come together to nourish healthy ecosystems. During my studies, I have been driven by environmental conservation projects and advocating for environmental protection in a changing climate through community engagement and policy decisions. Post-grad, I hope to explore how policy can be used to actively protect marine life and their interactions with their environment

My research

I am currently completing an internship, looking at comparative allometry of beaked whales (Family Ziphiidae) and how biological data collected from strandings along New Zealand and Australian coastlines provides fundamental knowledge in ziphiid morphology, including body proportions, ontogenic growth, sexual dimorphism, and species-specific morphology. Using a 40-year-old dataset that was collected during mass strandings, we have the opportunity to quantitatively analyse post-mortem investigations that will contribute to taxonomic studies, improve body condition assessments and provide a foundation for comparative anatomy of beaked whale species.
